This blog shall be utilized specifically to update my beloved students with some enrichment activities related to their classroom lessons and tasks. I believe this is one way to stretch our allotted time per meeting to facilitate more logical planning and design for the problems they have to solve.

Problem Set No. 2

1. Find the probability of drawing a pair or two red cards when two cards are drawn at random from a deck of 52 cards.

2. A single card is drawn from a deck. Find the probability of each of the following events:
a. drawing a black or an ace
b. drawing a black or a 6

3. An urn holds 10 identical balls except that 1 is white, 4 are black, and 5 are red. An experiment consists of selecting a ball from the urn and observing its color. What is the probability that the ball is not white?

4. If the probability that John will solve a certain problem is 2/3 (two-thirds), that Mary will solve it is 3/4 (three-fourths), and Peter will solve it is 1/2 (one-half), what is the probability that:
a. at least one person will solve it?
b. Mary and Peter will solve it but John will not?
c. John and Mary will solve it but Peter will not?
d. at least 2 people will solve it?

Problem Set No. 1

1. Find the probability of getting at least two 4's in a roll of three dice.

2. An electronic chip factory can have 5 defective chips for every 100 it produces. If 5 chips are selected at random, what is the probability of getting at least one defective?

3. Find the probability of drawing a pair or two red cards when two cards are drawn at random from a 52-card deck.

4. Four marbles at random from an urn containing 2 white, 4 red, and 6 blue marbles. What is the probability that at least 2 of them are red?

5. Three letters are chosen at random from the word POSTER. What is the probability that the selection will contain

a. E or O but not both?

b. E or O or both?

6. Four beads are drawn at random from a box containing 4 black, 4 white, and 2 red beads. What is the probability that the selection will contain exactly 2 black beads or exactly 2 white beads or both? (NOTE that the two events of drawing exactly 2 black beads or exactly 2 white beads are not mutually exclusive)...
